One useful feature of any cooker is a powerful fan. You need that to ensure the most even cooking possible. That also helps to brown. Both of those factors contribute to the perfect chicken or beef.

The simple knobs let you pick the function, power, and time. After that, your food pretty much cooks itself.

You can fit a 12″ pizza inside, to give you an idea of the interior size. The easy-to-use will handle up to a four-pound chicken or a five-pound cut of beef.

It’ll also cook anything else a regular oven will, as long as it is no bigger than a 12″ pizza pan.

One thing to be aware of is that the outside of this oven gets very hot. That’s mostly due to its tough stainless steel exterior. The trade-off to the steel’s good looks and durability is the hot surfaces. You’ll have to be careful to keep kids away if you get this oven.

2. Hamilton Beach Countertop Oven

This is a big convection oven with good horizontal rotisserie capabilities. Its size allows for a five-pound chicken or a big seven-pound slab of beef or pork. It can also cook two 12″ pizzas at a time, thanks to its two adjustable racks.

Three knobs are all you’ll need to master. You set the temp, time, and function, then you go about your business.

Convection is the star of this oven. It’s big enough for optimum air circulation. That speeds up cooking time and keeps food from drying out or getting hard from overcooking.

Some folks with very limited kitchen space, like those who live in studio apartments or dorms, use this as their everyday oven. They love how they can cook entire meals in it, thanks to its sheer size.

People with bigger kitchens usually like smaller ovens. But people really like having something a bit bigger than an old-style toaster oven that can cook two pizzas at once.

Speaking of old-school toaster ovens, a lot of people have commented on the wave of nostalgia that comes with this oven. Anyone alive in the 1980s will remember this style.

This is a good countertop oven for anyone who wants to do some baking along with their cooking. Baking and broiling are two things that this oven does well.

It’s big, so keep in mind that it’s not something you are going to want to continually store away after use. But its cool looks will probably make you want to keep it out anyway.

  • Takes up quite a bit of counter space

3. NutriChef AZPKRT97

Sale

Forget about doing anything other than rotisserie-style cooking with this model. But according to the countertop oven reviews that we searched through, everyone is highly impressed with this one!

It won’t bake and there’s no fan for convection, but this isn’t meant for all of that. It’s been designed only with cooking in mind. The single, powerful heating element does a fine job of roasting chicken, pork, beef, lamb, or veal traditionally. It holds the food vertically and cooks with intense heat. That makes the outside hot and flavorful and the inside moist and juicy.

Seven kabob skewers are included. That can open up a whole new culinary land in your kitchen. Once you make your kabobs, you’ll be hooked. They can become a favorite at mealtimes and get-togethers.

The clear top comes off of the black base for easy cleaning. Using it is easy too. All you have to do is set the temp and the timer. There are no function knobs or buttons to confuse things.

So many people talk about being mesmerized the first time they used this cooker. Some have been inspired to throw a shawarma party for their friends. This thing is just that cool and interesting.

People who had never thought of trying to cook their kabobs have decided to try since this oven makes them so easy.

This may be a great choice for you, don’t mind sacrificing baking and broiling capabilities for it.

Features

  • Wattage: 1500
  • Dimensions: 11″x13″x18″

Pros

  • Compact
  • Easy to use
  • Easy to clean
  • You can see your food cooking very easily

Cons

  • Lacks the versatility

4. Cuisinart Stainless Steel Convection Oven

This oven looks as strong as it is. It cooks as a convection oven with an impressive 1850 watts. That uses a lot of energy, but it cooks quickly and evenly.

A bunch of rooms must have gone to electronics because the interior of the oven looks smaller than it should be. There’s still plenty of room to cook a five-pound bird or a pizza, but there seems to be some counter space wasted somewhere. You’ll need plenty of room for this cooker.

It’ll be a great permanent addition to your kitchen if you want a versatile oven with plenty of power.

People love the size. It’s great to have that much of an oven if you can spare the counter space. Luckily, the stainless steel exterior goes well with most kitchen decors, so not many people complain about having to leave it out. Most feel that its versatility makes up for the extra counter space it takes up.

The only thing anyone has ever really complained about as far as the design goes is that the inside seems rather small for such a big oven.

If you are in the market for a good indoor oven with a nice amount of room on the inside and power to spare, this may be a good pick for you. It has a full 350 watts more than most ovens of this type. That’s great if you want to use this as your regular oven sometimes.

Features

  • Wattage: 1875
  • Dimensions: 19″x21″x14.5″
  • Functions: bake, broil, toast, and warm

Pros

  • High power for fast cooking
  • Plenty of room inside
  • Tough stainless exterior

Cons

  • Low interior room-to-exterior dimension ratio

5. NutriChef Upgraded Multi-Function Vertical Countertop Oven with Bake

Sale

This is the best of both worlds: true rotisserie and a small oven.

It cooks meats and poultry, even a small Thanksgiving turkey, vertically. And you can see your meat cook from across the room. There’s nothing that can stimulate your appetite more than watching a nice chicken brown and baste in its juices.

The width of the cooking area is only about 10″ in diameter. That’s a bit too small to handle full-sized frozen pizza, but you can use your imagination to reveal all the other stuff you can cook in here. It would be a great help on holidays and special occasions that call for big meals.

Cooking with it and cleaning it up is just as easy as with NutriChef’s smaller previous version that we reviewed above. You just take it apart at the base and clean everything in warm soapy water.

When all is accounted for, this model is an improvement, but it costs more and takes up more counter space than the model without the extra cooking room.

Convection oven reviews tell of this model’s excellence in its abilities, but people are still fairly limited as to what they can cook in it.

Most buyers love how it combines the function of an oven, albeit on a smaller scale.

You may be very happy with this oven if you are looking for a genuine one, but you also want something that can occasionally take care of a smaller side dish or two. Aside from making awesome chicken and roasts, it can make little casseroles, appetizers, and roasted veggie plates for larger meals.

Features

  • Wattage: 1500
  • Dimensions: 13.5″x12″x19″

Pros

  • Enhanced functionality over the smaller version
  • A good amount of room inside
  • Small footprint

Cons

  • Doesn’t have the width of other multi-function ovens

6. Ronco Showtime Large Capacity & BBQ Oven Platinum Edition

Sale

Here’s an option for the serious entertainer. This is exactly the kind of rotisserie that you might see in a professional kitchen.

It’s made of strong steel and built to last through many years of hard use. It isn’t recommended for the average person who may just occasionally cook a small chicken. It’s meant for cooking two large birds at a whack. But it comes with a basket that fits neatly inside. That’s great for quickly and thoroughly roasting smaller dainties like shrimp and cut potatoes.

You don’t have to be a restaurant owner to appreciate this awesome oven. You just have to cook 10 or more pounds of poultry at once. Many people who frequently entertain several guests like how they can get such a large volume of food cooked in such a short period.

People who have bought and used this oven are serious cooks. Some of them are professional chefs. What they were looking for when they bought it was dependability and capacity, and they are happy with both.

The hardcore cooks who own this oven rarely complain about malfunctions, and the pros often comment on what a good investment it has turned out to be.

This is a restaurant-style portable oven. It’s been designed and built to serve the purpose of cooking on a larger scale than what most residential consumers would demand. But if that’s what you want, this would probably be your best bet. It’s expensive, but it meets the needs of pros who need to prepare two or three birds at a time.

Features

  • Dimensions: 19.9 x 16.6 x 15.6 inches

Pros

  • Double the capacity of multi-function ovens
  • Sturdy and well-made

Cons

  • Expensive
  • Not very easy to clean

7. Flexzion Vertical Oven Grill

This is a great oven that was pretty much made for smaller meals. A three-pound chicken is about the limit.

It can also bake and broil, but the rounded shape of the interior limits the size of anything that can go in.

The good thing about that less-common shape is that it allows the oven to do the job of 1500 watts while drawing only 1200. That can save you some electricity if you cook in a lot. It also does a nice job of evenly browning chickens and other poultry. It cooks other meats more thoroughly too.

The warming function works very well. It continues to turn while gently warming it to keep it up to serving temperature.

Right off, many say that this oven isn’t as big as they thought it was. That’s usually because they didn’t take the shape into account when they ordered it. Keep in mind that you can only expect a medium-sized chicken to fit safely into this oven.

Almost every chicken cooker review that doesn’t have to do with that confusion is positive. There are a few complaints that the housing seems to be cheaply made, but there haven’t been many warranty claims on this model.

Do you want a good value, but you aren’t particularly concerned with being able to do a bunch of baking in your new oven? If you can say yes to both of those questions, then this may be a good deal for you.

It’s great at roasting smaller to medium chickens and medium roasts.

Features

  • Wattage: 1500
  • Dimensions: 14x16x21 inches

Pros

  • Energy-saving design
  • Long timer
  • Large viewing window

Cons

  • The shape doesn’t allow much baking

8. Wolfgang Puck 1700-Watt 23-Liter Oven

To be endorsed by Wolfgang Puck, an appliance must be one of the best on the market. That’s true in this case as well. Despite the high price, this oven offers the most value for the money you spend.

It can cook up to an eight-pound turkey or other large pieces of meat. And it cooks in about half the time. Anything you make in it, animal or vegetable, is sure to be flavorful and tender. The secrets are the moisture seal and the pressure generated and held during cooking.

Not only does that speed cooking time, but it also creates an environment inside the oven that traps flavor and allows it to permeate the food.

Aside from making fantastic meals, it can bake, broil, and toast as well.

Those who have bought this expensive kitchen oven were expecting a well-made, high-quality oven that’s a step above all other kitchen models. And that’s what they got.

There haven’t been many legitimate complaints. The rare defect in quality is always covered by warranty, and the matter is always quickly resolved by the customer service team.

In general, almost everyone is so satisfied with their purchase that they would make the same decision to buy it again.

This is a high-end, top-of-the-line kitchen appliance for those who don’t mind spending several hundred dollars for the best of the more expensive home ovens.

It is durable, easy to use, fairly easy to clean, and makes excellent food that is hard to match with a non-pressurized oven of any quality.

Features

  • Wattage: 1500
  • Dimensions: 20″x16″x12.5″

Pros

  • Creates an optimum cooking environment
  • Cooks faster
  • Makes more intensely flavored and moister meat and vegetables

Cons

  • Very expensive

9. Della 9-in-1 Multi-cooker Oven

This cool egg-shaped cooker is the home oven. Even though it has other functions, it doesn’t lack in the department. That’s where a lot of multi-function cookers messed up and kept themselves off of our list.

In this model, the chicken or other meat is held vertically. That allows more fat to drip from the meat before it can be reabsorbed by the food. The result is a crispier outside of the bird or cut of meat.

It’s really easy to use this one. The LED display is pretty straightforward. You use it and the directional keypad to set the temperature and timer. There’s also an always-on feature for longer cooking times.

The inside needs to be cleaned often. Otherwise, the grease buildup can smoke and cause your smoke detectors to go off. Grease and fat seem to cling to the interior of this oven. It would probably be best to at least wipe down the inside of it after every use.

Everyone seems to like the versatility of this small oven as well. They particularly like the air fryer function. Air fryers are all the rage nowadays, and it’s a good feeling to get extra functionality for your money.

Many have complained about the need to clean the interior so often. That grease that comes out of the meats you cook in an air fryer seems to stick to the inside of this oven.

All in all, everyone who bought this oven is still happy with it years later.

Features

  • Wattage: 1500
  • Dimensions: 19″x15″x15″

Pros

  • Cool shape
  • Versatile
  • Easy to use
  • Nice price

Cons

  • Not wide enough for bigger birds
  • Frequent cleaning is necessary

Vertical Or Horizontal: Which Type Is Better?

One of the decisions you’ll have to make if you want to get the rotisserie oven for your situation is whether you’d do better with a vertical or horizontal model. Many shoppers either don’t know or don’t care about the differences between the two kinds.

Most on the market today are of the horizontal variety. They are popular mostly because people are familiar with the classic squarish shape. It also seems to make more sense to have the food cooked horizontally, given everyone’s experience with regular full-sized.

They cook all types of food well, and many of them are loaded with features. like double adjustable racks, the ability to cook a wide variety of foods, and a great price.

But when you consider vertical vs horizontal, you may find the less familiar up-and-down type is more up your alley.

One nice benefit of a vertical oven is its size. They have a smaller footprint, so they are good for compact or more cluttered kitchens.

Verticals are also usually more efficient than horizontal ones because their heating elements are often situated closer to the surface of the food when it is being cooked. The wattage doesn’t differ much, 1500 is the standard, but they tend to cook a little faster.

A chicken rotisserie machine for home use is generally expected to cook one chicken or a small amount of other food at a time. You usually can’t fit two smaller birds or roasts into any oven. That’s another benefit of vertical. They have designs that allow for bigger chunks of food, but that goes for things that go on the rotisserie as opposed to the small racks that often come with them.

So which is the best for you? Well, if you are short on space, a vertical one will fit on your counter better. They are also usually a bit better at cooking food. But if you want the versatility of a convection or toaster oven combined with your oven, take a good look at the horizontal models.

Tips On Choosing

Use the ones we reviewed as the gold standards of their respective price ranges and features. We checked them out carefully.

The first thing you should think about is size. It doesn’t matter how well an oven performs. If it doesn’t fit on your countertop or can’t accommodate the amount of food you need it to, it’s useless! Be sure to check the exterior measurements. Pay special attention to the height. If it’s a stainless model, you’ll want some extra room between its top and the bottom of a wood cabinet. Always follow the manufacturer’s clearance recommendations.

Capacities are usually expressed as a weight for poultry. Think about the size of the chickens or roasts you cook most often. Versatile models that bake and broil often have you visualize the size by telling you how big of a pizza you can cook in it. This is a pretty useful method to determine the capacity you need.

Speaking of functions, this should be a big part of your decision. If you just need a simple, you can often save some money by avoiding ovens that also bake and cook in other ways. As a bonus, these rotisserie-only models often make more tender, juicier poultry and roasts.

That’s great for pizza and other foods that would normally do well in a toaster oven. The broil feature cooks up a nice round of lamb chops or London broil.

Many ovens that bake and boil can also toast. This is a nice way to toast bread, melt cheese, and heat many things quickly.

A warming feature is a very useful thing to have. With it, you don’t have to be so precise with your cooking times.

If it’s a commercial-grade oven you’re looking for, scrutinize the quality of the oven’s construction. You should get a durable model with room for two chickens and about 1850 watts of power.
